You see these terms a lot these days from many trainers, food and nutritional supplement manufacturers and consultants. Do you know these terms? Do you actually know what they mean?
We are confronted with these issues especially in spring. In February I did a 2-week clean eating program and followed it up with a 3-day juice cleanse. It did me good!
As passionate personal trainers and nutritionists, we notice from our customers' questions that there is so much information about diets and treatments that it is easy to lose track. In this series, we want to make it easier for you to get an overview, highlight the advantages and disadvantages and inspire you to find the right path for you and your lifestyle.
We don't want to encourage you to go on a diet, but rather to lead a healthy and contented lifestyle. Because BeFitinLife not only stands for sport but also for mindfulness and nutrition.
So now to the terms and what they actually mean:
Detox - detoxification
Means cleaning your body (liver, kidneys and intestines) from the inside. A certain diet is supposed to remove toxins. Toxins in the body are caused by certain foods, sugar, alcohol, stress, smoking and taking medication.
By adjusting your diet for a period of time chosen by you, your body can recover and perhaps even minimize certain illnesses.
In the next post we will go into more detail about the #2 detox methods.
Clean Eating
Is a diet with only fresh, wholesome food. Processed food such as fast food, convenience foods, sugar and alcohol are avoided for a certain period of time. Some people also avoid animal products and/or products containing wheat during this time.
This method helps you to eat very healthily. You supply your body with good fats, vitamins & minerals & complex carbohydrates. A positive side effect is that you lose weight.
Mindfulness - Awareness"
It is actually a meditation method in which you reflect on yourself, notice your breathing and your feelings. This term is now used in areas such as coaching, nutrition, dealing with colleagues and dealing with family. You should focus your attention on yourself or your environment, take perspectives and act benevolently and accept things.
Fast
When you fast, you abstain from food for a certain period of time, but drink enough liquids. There are different types of fasting, some of which are also supervised by doctors. The goal is similar to detoxification, to detoxify your body and save your digestive energy so that your body can concentrate on other processes. Many people report that while fasting, their brain focuses on what is important.
What do they all have in common? And who are these methodologies suitable for?
All topics are not essential for a healthy diet and a healthy lifestyle. But sometimes you feel weak and tired, your digestion is sluggish, your skin looks pale, some people lead a very stressful life, some habits are no longer good for you, you feel generally unwell or you are not satisfied with your fitness and your body.
Then one of these methods can help, because they all lead to mindfulness. You are mindful of yourself (mind, body, soul) and/or you are mindful of your environment, and that doesn't harm anyone! These methods may help you find new routines to achieve better well-being.
Our recommendation:
Are you wondering which method will help you? Think about how strict and disciplined you want to be. Plan a specific period of time, because this is your project. In the next articles we will go into more detail about the advantages and disadvantages of the individual methods and how these treatments can be implemented. We will also give you ideas about what alternatives there are.
